Beginnings...

Our group is just coming together. Earlier I met with Emily to talk a little about our project focus and talked about specific things we might do to engage with the homeless population and activities we might facilitate to raise awareness for this population as far as current issues that might affect them and then connecting them with ways to voice their opinion. These two activities are ones we thought about in our discussion.
·         Identify city representatives and the community council in their area then provide an opportunity to meet discuss current issues.

·          Assist in voting registration for those interested

We also decided to connect with a few contacts (staff at the Road Home Shelter, Volunteers of America, the Veterans Administration and 4th Street Clinic) to see their thoughts on conducting a focus group for current or formerly homeless individuals to engage in a discussion on applicable topics.

We added 2 other members to our group and will meet next week to discuss assignments.

  1. This is great! I recommend discussing what your exact problem/issue will be. Is it homelessness itself? Lack of voting among the homeless population? Something else? This will help you narrow your efforts. Also, I recommend checking out the scholarly literature, census data, etc. to get a better grasp on the problem, population, and interventions that have worked in the past. (Please consult the guidelines for the final paper.) This will help in your information-gathering. I look forward to watching your progress!
